Korima Health Initiative
In 2025, our team of doctors and medical professionals (including your RD) founded the Korima Health Initiative, a nonprofit whose mission it is to equip and staff an astounding remote wilderness clinic located in the wilds of the canyon. Your donation to Korima Health Initiative will go 100% to the effort to complete and staff the House of Mercy clinic (known as Kali Tibukuach in Rarámuri).

Since 2016, your RD has had the amazing opportunity to be part of the medical team that has traveled deep into the Copper Canyon of Chihuahua, México to distribute food and conduct field clinics for the Rarámuri (also known as the Tarahumara) people. Because I witnessed first-hand the unbelievable hardships of life in the canyon, I was given the gift of deep perspective. We all have SO MUCH, endless toothbrushes and soap, hospitals, most of us have 3 meals a day, shoes. Amid the alarming poverty, I also found a profound depth, an expansive home for the collective soul and love of all humankind.
Friends of Pine Grove Furnace State Park
We are blessed with a fantastic state park to use for our race headquarters. Buck Ridge Burn and its participants make a donation every year to the Friends of Pine Grove Furnace State Park whose mission it is to "keep history alive and promote the educational and recreational programs of the park and surrounding areas through special events and trail development while protecting the park’s natural resources."
Donations are used for projects such as these:
- Bridge work on trails
- Enhancement and creation of trail links
- Resource management - control of invasive species/ planting natives
- The enhancement of the Furnace Stack area
- The development of interpretive displays
Friends of Kings Gap State Park
The Friends of Kings Gap is organized to encourage community involvement and enjoyment of Kings Gap State Park. Its intent is to support, assist, and promote the park's activities, and to help maintain the park's natural and historical resources on South Mountain.
Friends of Michaux State Forest
What better way to say thank you to the forest than to help support the organization that maintains and protects it? We can donate directly to the Michaux through the newly formed Friends of Michaux State Forest group that fosters the "preservation and enhancement of the forest’s recreational, cultural, and natural resources. We formed in 2019 and are a committed group of volunteers working to fulfill our mission. We are a chapter of the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation. We work closely with Pennsylvania DCNR staff at the Michaux State Forest to complete on-the-ground projects, and perform outreach and education to foster an ethic of stewardship across all users of the state forest."
Citizen's Fire Company No. 1
The fine folk of the Citizen's Fire Company No. 1 are a steadying and secure presence at Buck Ridge Burn every year. As a thank you for their steadfast dedication and for the invaluable service they provide to our community, Buck Ridge Burn donates a large portion of the race proceeds to them every year.
